Nancy S. Freeman has practiced law in Central Florida since 1993.  Her practice focuses mainly on estate planning, estate and trust administration, and probate, as well as tax matters and general commercial representation.  Nancy opened her own practice after twenty-five years as an attorney and shareholder of the firm Winderweedle, Haines, Ward & Woodman, P.A., and three years as an Assistant Professor of Law at Barry University School of Law.

The Florida Bar has certified Nancy as a specialist in two practice areas:  Wills, Trusts & Estates Law and Tax Law.  She is one of very few attorneys in the State of Florida who is certified in both of these practice areas.  She is rated an “AV Preeminent” by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating available.  She has been selected as a Florida Superlawyer in eight different years.

Nancy’s educational record shows her diligence and commitment to producing quality work.  She earned her LL.M. in Taxation degree from University of Alabama, summa cum laude, as class valedictorian.  She obtained her J.D. degree from the University of Florida College of Law, with high honors, and received the Order of the Coif.  She obtained her B.A. degree from Duke University, cum laude.  While a student at the University of Florida College of Law, she served as the Senior Articles Editor for Florida Law Review.  After graduating from law school, Nancy served as a Law Clerk for the Hon. Peter T. Fay, United States Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit.

Since law school, Nancy has been active in the Florida Bar and local bar associations, especially on those committees dedicated to raising the standards within her practice areas.  She is a past Chair and current Vice-Chair of the Florida Bar Wills, Trusts & Estates Certification Committee.  She is a past Chair of the Estate, Guardianship & Trust Committee of the Orange County Bar Association and a past member of the Editorial Board of the Florida Bar News & Journal, the Probate Law Committee of the Florida Bar Real Property, Probate & Trust Law Section, and Probate Rules Committee of the Florida Bar.  She is a member of the Florida Bar Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section, Tax Section, and Business Law Section, as well as the Orange County and Seminole County Bar Associations.  She has authored numerous continuing legal education articles and seminars on topics related to estate planning, probate, trust drafting and administration, homestead, and health care advance directives.
 
Nancy is a Central Florida native and proud graduate of Lyman High School.  She has three grown children and lives in Winter Springs with her husband and two dogs.

Marla B. Schaffer

Paralegal & Office Manager

Marla B. Schaffer is a Paralegal and the Office Manager.  She has worked as a Paralegal since moving to Central Florida in 1999 and prior to this managed fundraising activities for the Torah Academy of Suffolk County in her hometown of Commack, NY.  She has over 16 years of experience in various areas of law including Trust and Estate Administration, Guardianships, Estate Planning and Taxation.  Nancy and Marla spent over 15 years working side by side at Winderweedle, Haines, Ward & Woodman before the founding of this new and energetic firm.  Marla also handles the day to day management of the firm as well as the firm's billing and bookkeeping. 

Marla is originally from Long Island, New York and earned her Bachelor's degree from Hofstra University's Frank G. Zarb School of Business.  She currently lives in Maitland with her husband and 2 cats.  In her free time Marla enjoys yoga, cruise travel, and focusing on local charities, especially the Russell Home for Atypical Children which is very close to her heart.
